Using Tires

We pride ourselves on delivering products and solutions that can help our customers achieve their performance and sustainability goals.

Maximizing Performance and Extending the Life of Tires

We want to support our customers in taking care of their tires throughout their entire lifecycle—from new tires to retreads to end-of-life use. For example, by designing tires with reduced rolling resistance, we enable more efficient movement, helping drivers travel farther while using less fuel. We also help our truck and bus customers extend tire life through retreading.

COLLABORATING WITH PENSKE ON FLEET SOLUTIONS TO REDUCE CO₂e EMISSIONS

The transportation sector is one of the largest contributors to global emissions, with challenges ranging from fuel consumption to vehicle wear and tear.

To address these urgent industry issues, Penske and Bridgestone teamed up to create a dedicated Decarbonization Lab to test and validate real world solutions that can reduce emissions and lower the cost of CO₂ reduction across the industry. The Lab focuses on three critical areas that impact performance: tire and retread selection, alternative fuel integration, and road and weight optimization strategies.

By optimizing distribution routes, incorporating renewable diesel, and equipping the fleet with low rolling resistance tires, IntelliTire pressure monitoring and 100% new Bridgestone casings, we've achieved reductions in CO₂ emissions and costs per mile. If implemented across the fleet, the solutions tested in the lab have the potential to reduce emissions by approximately 65%.

Extending Tire Life: The Impact of Retreading with Bandag

Constant sharp turns and stop-and-go driving take a toll on heavy and medium-duty truck tires. These vehicles can travel up to 10 times further than passenger vehicles annually, which means their tires need replacing more often. These specialized tires are also more resource-intensive, weighing about five times as much as a passenger car tire. The frequent tire replacement cycle creates both a consistent operating cost for fleets and additional waste.

To prolong the lifespan of our tires, Bridgestone’s Bandag business provides tire retreading for the commercial truck and bus industry. Through a precise 10-step process, technicians inspect, repair and apply fresh tread to worn tires, restoring their strength for the road ahead. In 50 years of operation, the Bandag retreading process has saved an estimated four billion gallons of oil.

Not only is retreading a more sustainable approach, it also presents a waste-saving opportunity for fleets. Across all the fleets that Bridgestone works with in the U.S. and Canada, over 180 million pounds of waste were saved through retreading in 2025.1
