Bridgestone’s Wilson plant hosts annual Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day

The Wilson Passenger Tire Manufacturing Plant located in Wilson, North Carolina, hosted its annual Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day to help inspire more girls to pursue a career in the engineering field.

During this week’s event, 23 local eighth and ninth-grade students visited the plant. The students toured the facility and learned about the tire manufacturing process. They rotated through engineering learning stations, where they heard from Wilson's female engineers on different engineering specialties, the tire design process and how engineering impacts the products we make.

The students also participated in a "How the Rubber Meets the Road" hands-on activity with the goal being to divert as much water off the tire's surface as possible. The winning team set a new record with a 97 percent diversion rate. Students ate lunch with the presenters, engaged in small group discussion and received certificates to commemorate their participation in the event.

"Hosting this event is one of the highlights for our plant every year," said Walt Pittman, Operations Manager. "Being able to spend time with Wilson area students considering STEM careers and sharing the vast opportunities our organization can provide is an exciting and rewarding event for our plant."
