Firestone Industrial Products receiving award for safety in dyersburg tennessee

Firestone Industrial Products Company, LLC (FSIP), a leader in developing technology to eliminate vibration in global transportation, announced today that its Dyersburg, Tennessee, plant recently received the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence for Workplace Safety and Health for working more than 320,000 hours without lost-time injury.

The Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration (TOSHA) recognized the plant with this honor during presentation made by Steve Hawkins, deputy commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workplace Development. The Commissioner’s Award of Excellence recognizes Tennessee employers and employees who meet a required number of hours worked without workplace injuries serious enough to cause an employee to miss a day of work. The number of required hours is based on the size of the company.

“Firestone Industrial Products has demonstrated a strong commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace,” said Hawkins. “The evaluation criteria for this award are challenging, and this company has worked extremely hard to meet and exceed the standards the award requires.”

During its 30 years of operations, the Dyersburg FSIP plant has been the recipient of multiple safety, quality, and environmental awards and certifications, including:

  • Four Commissioners Awards of Safety Excellence since 2005
  • Tennessee Volunteer STAR (Safety Through Accountability and Recognition) member (Tennessee's Voluntary Protection Program)
  • Nine Governor's Awards of Excellence since 2005
  • Tennessee Green Star Partnership member
  • ISO 9001:2015
  • ISO 14001:2015

“Safety is ingrained in our culture and is the top priority in our day-to-day operations,” said Emily Poladian, president, Firestone Industrial Products. “This culture of safety underscores the Bridgestone commitment to be an employer of choice. This is truly a team effort. We appreciate the support from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development and are honored to set the bar high for Tennessee manufacturers across the state.”

The Dyersburg plant, which employs 110 people, is one of the company’s two manufacturing facilities located in the United States.

FSIP has an established safety program that includes training, evaluation of basic systems, internal audits, and continuous improvement. Employees at the Dyersburg plant participate in annual proactive safety activities that include identifying hidden dangers, behavioral safety observations and safety audits. Daily, monthly, and quarterly meetings round out the company’s focus on workplace safety and process safety management.

FSIP is part of Bridgestone, the world’s largest tire and rubber company, and benefits from its automotive expertise and research and development efforts. The company offers a full range of air springs for the global commercial vehicle market with its two product brands, Firestone Airide™ and Airogear™, and is a preferred partner of top global vehicle manufacturers.
