Bridgestone Americas Participation Recognized as Top Donor for United Way of Metropolitan Nashville

Efforts highlighted as part of the company’s Our Way to Serve CSR commitment

Bridgestone Americas teammates acknowledged for work with united way of Nashville

Bridgestone Americas, Inc. today announced it was the top donor for United Way of Metropolitan Nashville in 2018. As a multi-year charitable giving and volunteer campaign for Bridgestone, the United Way Campaign is part of the company’s ongoing, global commitment to corporate social responsibility, Our Way to Serve.

In 2018, Bridgestone raised $1.54 million for the United Way of Metropolitan Nashville as a part of its ongoing commitment to improving the communities in which its teammates move, live, work and play. More than 80 percent of Nashville-based employees shared their time, resources and talent to make the campaign a success. More than 1,500 employee donations comprised half of all contributions, with the Bridgestone Charitable Golf Tournament and Bridgestone company match program contributing the remaining total.

“For more than 26 years, Bridgestone has been committed to improving the lives of those in the communities in which we have operations as a part of our Global commitment, Our Way to Serve” said Gordon Knapp, Bridgestone Americas president and CEO, and 2019 Board of Trustees Chair for United Way of Metropolitan Nashville. “We want to continue to be a good neighbor in our hometown of Nashville, Tennessee. As a part of that, our teammates have had the pleasure of supporting the United Way in its commitment to strengthening personal health, education and financial stability in the Nashville area. We’re honored to support them in this mission and hope to continue this level of commitment for years to come.”

In addition to this year’s contributions financially, Bridgestone employees offered their time through numerous volunteer opportunities with United Way. More than 150 Bridgestone employees participated in the organization’s Stuff the Bus event, resulting in 11,000 backpacks filled with school supplies for local elementary school children. Additionally, employees sorted 7,518 pounds of food through United Way’s Second Harvest event. Employees also supported the American Red with their fire prevention program and Salvation Army through its Magness Potter Community Center clean-up efforts.
