Griffin Plant supports Backpack Food for Kids program

Bridgestone Bandag Griffin plant fundraiser

In early August, employees from the Bridgestone Bandag Griffin Plant hosted a dunking booth fundraiser for the Backpack Food for Kids program in Griffin, Georgia.

Last year, the team at the Griffin Plant raised money to donate to the program and sent volunteers each week to help pack the backpacks. Dedicated volunteers packed 53,608 nutritious easy-open foods items into backpacks, providing 6,701 weekend meals to about 250 children facing hunger during the 2017-2018 school year.

Students supported by the program left school on Friday afternoon knowing they would have food for the weekend and returned to school on Monday morning ready to read and learn.

The program serves six elementary schools in the Griffin-Spalding County School System. Students are recommended by their teachers, counselors and administrators and are enrolled in the program after obtaining parental consent. The enrollment begins over each year when the children return to school in August.

We are thankful for our Griffin Plant employees, for their efforts demonstrating Our Way to Serve in the community!
