Firestone FT492 trailer tire

Bridgestone Americas, Inc. (Bridgestone) today announced the launch of the all-new Firestone FT492 trailer tire, offering fleets a fuel-efficient, SmartWay®-verified tire backed by the dependable Firestone brand. Available in five sizes, the Firestone FT492 tire is California Air Resources Board (CARB) compliant and features a fuel-efficient tread design to promote low rolling resistance. The trailer tire is also engineered with tough sidewall protection and a wide tread footprint, helping hardworking fleets achieve the performance they need, every day.

“Long-haul and regional fleets demand a lot from their tires,” said Ben Johnson, director of marketing, truck and bus radial, U.S. and Canada, Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations (BATO). “The Firestone FT492 tire is uniquely designed with the latest technological advancements to achieve long-lasting tread wear to help deliver the performance demanded by fleets. This newest offering reinforces our commitment at Bridgestone to help make mobility more efficient for fleets of all sizes and vocations.”

The Firestone FT492 tire is engineered for single- and tandem-axel trailer applications and offers a wide footprint to promote even wear and retreadability. The tire is designed to be paired with a Bandag retread to optimize the tire’s full performance potential by extending casing life and lowering the total cost of tire ownership.

Other features of the Firestone FT492 tire include:

  • Thick sidewall ribs to fight curb damage and protect the casing;
  • Patented NanoPro-Tech polymer technology to reduce energy loss for improved rolling resistance;
  • A tread pattern designed to provide secure traction in wet conditions and promote uniform pressure across the tire to minimize edge wear for long tread life; and
  • An optimized belt package for casing durability and reduced tire weight.

The new Firestone FT492 tire for long- and regional-haul service is now available in the U.S. and Canada in the 295/75R22.5 size. Sizes 11R22.5, 11R22.4, 285/75R24.5 and 255/70R22.5 will available in November.
