Bridgestone Mexico and Habitat for Humanity Delivered New Housing to Families Without Homes in Morelos

Through a collaborative partnership, 16 permanent houses were built in the municipality of Tlaquiltenango, one of the most affected areas in Morelos

Bridgestone México in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Foundation, delivered 16 permanent houses to families in Tlaquiltenango, Morelos, who lost their homes after the earthquakes registered on September 19, 2017.

During the ceremony, Alfonso Zendejas, President of Bridgestone Latin America North (BS-LAN) and Gustavo Gutiérrez Lee, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Mexico, handed the keys of their new home to the affected families who were benefited by this project, joined by the community group Constructores de Sueños, as well as company executives and volunteers.

“At Bridgestone, we are pleased to see how today the project we have worked for more than eight months in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity Mexico is taking shape. We are sure that, with these homes, we not only help families to have a safe place to sleep, but also, to have a home where they can begin to rebuild their life stories”, said Alfonso Zendejas, President of Bridgestone Latin America North (BS-LAN).

The project began at the end of 2017 when the damage assessment was completed in Tlaquiltenango, one of the municipalities in Morelos most affected by the September earthquakes, in order to establish a plan for the reconstruction of safe and decent permanent homes, in support of the families of the municipality.

“Delivery of new homes is always a cause for celebration for Habitat. We are very proud of this partnership with Bridgestone that allows more than 80 people from 16 families to enjoy a new beginning,” added Gustavo Gutiérrez Lee, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Mexico.

All homes included in this project, were rebuilt under anti seismic model with mooring chains and foundation in one piece, to ensure durability and were also customized in design and distribution, according to the needs of each family.

“We have no words to thank Bridgestone and the Habitat Foundation for the support they gave us to recover our homes, but, above all, for reminding us that we are not alone; that, despite the difficulties, there are people who still care about those who need it most,” said Jesus Pichardo, representative of Constructores de Sueños.
