Bridgestone’s Garfield Elected RMA Board Chairman
RMA is poised to enter a new era of growth as investments in the U.S. by tire manufacturers continue. Continued public policy challenges on environmental, safety advocacy and other matters will continue to be a focus of the association.
Gary Garfield, CEO and President, Bridgestone Americas
The Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) today announced that it has elected Gary Garfield to serve as the organization’s Chairman of the Board of Directors. Garfield is CEO and president of Bridgestone Americas, Inc. (BSAM).
Garfield succeeds Pete Selleck, chairman and president of Michelin North America, Inc., who served as RMA Board Chairman since 2013.
“Gary will continue a trend of strong leadership as Chairman of the RMA Board of Directors,” said Charles A. Cannon, RMA president and CEO. “RMA is well-served by an active, involved and decisive Board of Directors, and Gary’s tenure will no doubt continue that firm guidance for the association.”
Garfield oversees all BSAM operations across five continents. BSAM accounts for about 45 percent of the global revenue of Bridgestone operations worldwide, making it the company's largest subsidiary. With more than 55,000 teammates worldwide, BSAM manufactures and markets a wide range of tires for a variety of applications primarily under the Bridgestone and Firestone brands. BSAM also owns and operates the world’s largest automotive service and tire retailer, a world’s leading commercial roofing and building products company, and the worldwide leader in vehicle and equipment air spring technology.
“RMA is poised to enter a new era of growth as investments in the U.S. by tire manufacturers continue,” Garfield said. “Continued public policy challenges on environmental, safety advocacy and other matters will continue to be a focus of the association.”
Garfield was elected in October at the RMA Board of Directors meeting and will serve a two-year term.
