On July 13, a team led by Dan Francis, Section Leader, Indoor Testing, competed against 38 other cars in the 2018 United Way Corporate Derby Challenge held at Derby Downs in Akron, Ohio.
The team designed, built, decorated and tested a Soap Box Derby car in preparation for the race.
While the team raced for the trophy, ATC employees gathered trackside for a tailgate party and to cheer them on to victory. The first place title was elusive this year, but the Bridgestone team finished in a respectable fourth place and are already beginning plans for the 2019 race.
For the past eight years, the United Way of Summit County has hosted the Corporate Derby Challenge, a competition open to all local businesses, non-profits and organizations. The event provides participating organizations with a team-building opportunity while they support a great cause, as funds raised from the three sponsorship levels required to participate go toward programs for at-risk youth in the area.
Bridgestone has proudly participated in every United Way Corporate Derby Challenge race, demonstrating Our Way to Serve in the Akron community.
