Bridgestone Employee Participation Leads to Record Support of United Way of Metropolitan Nashville

Eighty percent of Nashville-based employees shared their time in highest engagement level to date.

Bridgestone supports United Way of Metro Nashville

Bridgestone Americas, Inc. today announced its largest contribution ever to United Way of Metropolitan Nashville through its annual, week-long United Way Campaign. The record-breaking support is attributed to the significant fundraising of Bridgestone employees and the success of its second annual Bridgestone Charitable Golf Tournament, which also saw its highest vendor participation yet. The United Way Campaign is part of the company’s ongoing, global commitment to corporate social responsibility, Our Way to Serve.

The 2018 campaign was driven by record employee participation, with 80 percent of Nashville-based employees sharing their time, resources and talent to make the campaign a success. More than 1,500 employee donations comprised half of all contributions, with the Bridgestone Charitable Golf Tournament and Bridgestone company match program contributing the remaining total. The golf tournament, held at the Hermitage Golf Course in Nashville in September, featured more than 50 vendors and raised nearly double the overall donations received in the inaugural tournament hosted last year. These outstanding efforts led to a total of $1.5 million raised for United Way of Metropolitan Nashville.

“It is truly an honor to support United Way of Metropolitan Nashville. For more than 25 years, Bridgestone teammates have been proud to help United Way in its commitment to strengthening personal health, education and financial stability in the Nashville area,” said Gordon Knapp, Bridgestone Americas president and CEO. “At Bridgestone, we are committed to living out Our Way to Serve in all that we do, and the results of the 2018 United Way Campaign demonstrate the impact we can make when we work together to serve the communities in which we move, live, work and play.”

In addition to this year’s contribution, Bridgestone employees participated in numerous volunteer opportunities through United Way. More than 150 Bridgestone employees participated in the organization’s Stuff the Bus event, helping to stuff donated school supplies into 11,000 backpacks for local elementary school children. Additionally, employees contributed to sorting 7,518 pounds of food through United Way’s Second Harvest event, among others.

“The Bridgestone campaign is a shining example of how corporations can partner with United Way to make a real difference in the community,” says Brian Hassett, President and CEO of United Way of Metropolitan Nashville. “We are so proud of Bridgestone’s leadership and our long-standing relationship.”

Bridgestone and United Way have worked together for more than 25 years, with Bridgestone employees serving alongside the organization in 14 locations across the U.S. The Bridgestone United Way Campaign demonstrates the organizations’ shared commitment to make Nashville stronger, safer and healthier and exemplifies Our Way to Serve, the Bridgestone global corporate social responsibility commitment.
