Employees attend Equal Opportunity Day luncheon in support of Middle Tennessee Urban League

Bridgestone Nashville Equal opportunity day luncheon

In February, more than 20 Bridgestone employees attended the 51st Annual Equal Opportunity Day luncheon hosted by the Urban League of Middle Tennessee. Equal Opportunity Day (EOD) is an annual corporate luncheon and fundraising event that spotlights the Urban League of Middle Tennessee's accomplishments and highlights local, state and national challenges. Speakers at this year's event included Bill Lee, Tennessee Governor; David Briley, Nashville Mayor; and special guest speaker James Page Jr., Vanderbilt Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer.

The 2019 luncheon brought together more than 400 corporate professionals and was held at the downtown Nashville Hilton hotel.

One of the Bridgestone attendees was Eric Higgs, President, Truck, Bus and Retread tires, U.S. and Canada, Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations. Eric is a board member for the Urban League of Middle Tennessee and said he was proud to represent both Bridgestone and the Urban League at this year's event.

"Bridgestone has a long relationship partnering with the Urban League of Middle Tennessee, and their mission to serve and impact the community fits well with our global commitment to corporate social responsibly, Our Way to Serve," said Eric. "This year's luncheon was a huge success and the largest event to date. It was an honor to attend with my fellow Bridgestone colleagues."

The mission of the Urban League is to enable African Americans, other minorities, and disenfranchised groups to secure economic self-reliance, power, parity and civil rights.
