Des Moines employees participate in CelebrAsian festival

Firestone Des Moines, Iowa Celebrasian festival

Employees from the Firestone Agriculture Tire Manufacturing Plant in Des Moines, Iowa, recently participated in the 16th annual CelebrAsian Festival hosted in downtown Des Moines by the Iowa Asian Alliance on May 25 – 26.

The festival is designed to bring together various Asian, Asian American, Pacific American and Pacific Islander communities in Iowa, and is the largest Asian American event in the state. Attendees are able to experience cultural exhibits, history, food, performance artists, sports, martial arts and family-friendly activities.

Firestone father and son duo, Nou and James Cam, coordinated and participated in a Sepak Takraw tournament, which is a type of kick volleyball native to Southeast Asia. Kolayout Mila, Des Moines Plant Crew Manager, was selected to represent Firestone as one of the festival's village judges and had an opportunity to taste test and judge food prepared by all 14 Asian villages represented.

To promote Firestone's presence in the community, employees hosted a raffle for a collectible tractor and also handed out Firestone water bottles and frisbees, which served as make-shift fans to beat the 100-degree heat.
