Bridgestone Environmental Education Project Impacts Over 2,000 Students in São Paulo, Bahia and Santa Catarina

In addition to offering workshops to educators and students, the initiative included the delivery of recreation areas developed with unserviceable tires to public educational institutions

São Paulo, July 18, 2018 - Bridgestone, the world's largest tire manufacturer, launched the "Ressignificar" (Resignify) educational project from June 4 to July 6, focusing on environment and sustainability. The initiative, carried out in partnership with NTICS Projetos, visited public schools in Santo André (SP), Campinas (SP), São Pedro (SP), Camaçari (BA) and Mafra (SC), reaching over 2,000 students.

"Ressignificar" is part of Bridgestone's global commitment to social responsibility, "Our Way to Serve," which relies on three priority areas: people, mobility and the environment. "This project is another way to reinforce our commitment to the communities in which we operate," said Fabio Fossen, president of Bridgestone Brazil. "Helping to build safer and healthier communities, and making education more accessible and inclusive is our commitment", says Fossen.

Each of the five schools considered by the "Ressignificar" project received a recreation area called "Activities and Skills," built using spent tires. Teachers and students from the schools participating in the project received informative materials and attended workshops on environment and sustainability. These workshops encouraged teachers to work on this theme in an interdisciplinary way in the classroom throughout the year. In all, 80 teachers were trained.

"We work to promotes a series of activities that promote deeper understanding forf participants in ways that relate directly and locally, seeking to influence people and children to focus regularly on sustainability", says Ana Carolina Xavier, project director of NTICS Projetos.

Complementing the initiative's actions, 32 volunteers were trained in each of the schools to maintain the "Activities and Skills" space.
