125 Years of Igniting Confidence

For 125 years, Firestone has been igniting confidence in anyone ready to take on what’s next. The Firestone brand carries a legacy of pioneering solutions by creating quality products that every driver, no matter the country, can rely on. Since 1900, we have faced the future head-on, with optimism—because we believe that with conviction, there’s no limit to what you can do.

“The greatest pleasure is in doing something to help others to help themselves.”

Harvey S. Firestone

The year of commemoration will showcase Firestone’s unwavering commitment to delivering trusted products and solutions consumers can count on, along with its deep-rooted heritage and vision for the future of mobility. Celebrations will include:

Vagabonds Expeditions
To kick off its 125th anniversary, Firestone hosted storytellers on a curated off-road drive program through the remote terrains of Bighorn National Forest in Wyoming. Throughout the anniversary celebration, Firestone will share more “Vagabonds” experiences with storytellers in America’s backcountry and remote lands to recount the brand’s history and Harvey’s legacy.

New Firestone Product Launches
Firestone will introduce a range of new products designed to continue pushing the boundaries of performance and reliability. The brand plans to unveil multiple innovative tire solutions across the consumer replacement and commercial segments between late 2025 and 2026.

INDYCAR Racing
Firestone's motorsports legacy dates back to nearly the same time as the founding of the brand, with its first win at the Indianapolis 500 in 1911. This year that legacy continues as part of Firestone’s 125th anniversary celebrations throughout the 2026 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season. Now in its 26th consecutive season as the exclusive tire supplier, celebrations will include activations surrounding the 110th Running of the Indianapolis 500 (May 24, 2026).

Teammate, Consumer and Trade Show Engagements
The company will have a significant presence at industry-leading events and trade shows throughout the year, showcasing its Firestone tire lines and air springs. Appearances throughout the year will serve as a tribute to Firestone’s legacy and a bold statement of what lies ahead. A few of those events and activations include King of the Hammers in Johnson Valley, California (Jan. 22-Feb. 7, 2026), Overland Expo West in Flagstaff, Arizona (May 15-17, 2026), and the 110th Running of the Indianapolis 500 (May 24, 2026).

Foundations of Firestone (1900-1938)

The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company was officially incorporated on March 3, 1910. In these first four decades, Harvey S. Firestone’s groundbreaking contributions to the nation’s automotive infrastructure secured his place in the history books.

In 1919, his Ship by Truck movement helped lay the foundation for the improved roads that Americans still use today. The gum dipping process, which Firestone patented in 1920, increased tire durability, providing greater reliability for the American driver than ever before. In 1932, Harvey’s “Put the Farm on Rubber” campaign revolutionized American agriculture with the power of the rubber pneumatic tractor tire. The name “Firestone” was becoming inseparable from the underpinnings of American society.

Building a Strong Business (1939-1988)

When Harvey passed in 1938, he left a lasting legacy. Firestone was already well established as a top-quality brand. Now, we just had to keep doing what we did best: providing top-quality products to make the everyday driver’s life better and easier.

Patented in 1938, Firestone air spring technology was engineered to provide a smoother, comfortable ride for American passengers and to ensure dependable transport of cargo across the nation. We also continued to find success at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a proving ground for Firestone products since the 1910s. Today, with a thriving Airide business and 76 Indianapolis 500 victories to our name, Firestone has become synonymous with reliability for many American drivers.

Evolving as an Iconic Brand (1989-2025)

Following our 1988 merger with Bridgestone, our celebrated 1995 return to the Indy 500 and the successful launch of our Destination tire proved our staying power. Firestone is a brand built on prioritizing lasting trust with every type of driver.

As we raced into the future, we never lost sight of our earliest muses. In 1915, four American icons — Harvey Firestone, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, and John Burroughs —named themselves “The Four Vagabonds”, and each year for nearly a decade, they’d set out on bold adventures, trading comfort for campfires and convention for curiosity. Always inspired by the cross-country camping trips of the “Four Vagabonds,” Firestone continues to champion the love of the journey. The Vagabond spirit fuels our ongoing mission to create tires that empower the modern explorer, no matter what car they drive.

Firestone Essence

Since 1900, Firestone has demonstrated an uncompromising commitment to reliability and resilience with every tire we’ve produced. Harvey S. Firestone’s attention to detail helped give drivers the freedom to focus on their destinations, and that work ethic lives on in our brand today. Whether on the grind of the daily commute or the grit of the racetrack, drivers trust that Firestone tires are designed to perform through every turn, on every terrain, and at every time of the year. It’s not just about getting drivers from A to B. It’s about igniting confidence in every journey.
