As a responsible steward of the environment, Bridgestone focuses on taking care of the Earth’s natural resources – reducing, reusing and recycling wherever possible.

REDUCE CO₂ EMISSIONS

As the world’s largest tire and rubber company, Bridgestone’s goal is to achieve a 35 percent reduction in CO₂ emissions by 2020 and a 50 percent reduction in CO₂ emissions by the year 2050 and beyond.

INNOVATING OUR PRODUCTS & PROCESSES

Bridgestone is committed to producing products in the most environmentally responsible ways. We are continually working to ensure sustainable practices are employed throughout the entire product lifecycle from how Bridgestone tires are produced, to the impact of tires on the road, to how tires are used at the end of their lives on a vehicle. The company is continually delivering new tire innovation and improving environmental performance.

Guayule: From Shrub to Rubber

In 2011, Bridgestone set out on a new journey launching a research initiative aimed at diversifying the world’s natural rubber supply. Our team of experts at the Biorubber Process Research Center in Mesa, Arizona is working to pioneer the commercialization of tire grade natural rubber derived from guayule, a desert shrub. The guayule sustainable research project moves Bridgestone closer to its long-term environmental vision to manufacture products from raw materials that are fully renewable and sustainable by 2050 and beyond.

Ecopia Tires

The Bridgestone Ecopia line of tires features fuel-efficient performance technologies and allows drivers to go farther on less energy. The tires deliver low rolling resistance, meaning each Ecopia tire minimizes wasted energy, helping to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Many of the Ecopia consumer tire products utilize recycled rubber components, which contribute to at least five percent of the tread compound, also giving them the Eco-Products designation.

IMPROVING OPERATIONS TO REDUCE FOOTPRINT & MINIMIZE WASTE

Bridgestone Americas is the leader in moving toward a waste-free tire industry. Over the last year, we have made great progress toward significantly reducing the amount of waste we generate and send to landfills.

Zero waste to landfill

Several Bridgestone Americas sites have achieved zero waste to landfill. This map shows which facilities have reached and maintained this accomplishment.

PARTNERING WITH COMMUNITIES

Since the 1990s, Bridgestone has engaged in activities to help improve biodiversity, and today the company has 10 wildlife habitat sites at our manufacturing facilities. We’ve worked with the Wildlife Habitat Council to help us manage our lands to foster wildlife habitat conservation and improve biodiversity as a whole.

Environmental Educators

The Bridgestone Environmental Education Classroom & Habitat (BEECH) is a certified wildlife habitat at our tire plant in Warren County, TN. At this hands-on environmental learning center, thousands of Warren County students in grades K-8 learn grade-specific science curriculum that supports Tennessee’s standards.

Creating A Waste-Free Industry

The Bridgestone Tires4ward^TM program strives to ensure that for every new tire Bridgestone Americas sells in the U.S., one spent tire, or any tire that has been taken out of use and removed from a vehicle, is recovered and put to a valuable new use.
